BKCS Team Interacts with Children at Kolbe Home - a wing of Prison Ministry India

As part of the Lenten Visit Programme, the Office Bearers and Executive Committee Members of BKCS visited Kolbe Home, a wing of Prison Ministry India, located at St. Thomas Layout on Sarjapura Road, on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

Despite the busy Sunday traffic, the team reached Kolbe Home and the visit was organised as part of the Lenten initiative of BKCS to reach out, interact, and extend support to the residents associated with the Prison Ministry.

The team were warmly received by Rev. Fr. Francis Kodiyan, MCBS, Co-founder, National Coordinator, and Secretary to the CBCI for Prison Ministry India. Fr. Francis took time to personally interact with the guests.

After the initial ice-breaking session, the 18 boys residing at Kolbe Home presented a welcome dance and later entertained everyone by dancing to the tunes of a few popular movie songs. The children were full of enthusiasm and radiated confidence throughout their performances.

Each child was then invited to introduce himself. Much to our surprise and delight, all 18 boys spoke fluent English with remarkable confidence. They attend a school located nearby. When each boy was asked to share his dream for the future, they spoke with great hope and determination. Most of them wished to become IAS and IPS officers or join the police force, while others expressed their ambition to become businessmen, teachers, and software engineers.

Mrs. Dorine Rasquinha, a trainer by profession, then interacted with the children and shared a few valuable tips on how they could build confidence and work towards achieving their dreams. She spent about 15 minutes engaging with them in a lively and meaningful session, encouraging them to believe in themselves and strive for a better future.

After a short break, the team gathered together to enjoy snacks along with the children. During the visit, the members of BKCS came forward with contributions towards the needs of Kolbe Home. The group donated 50 kgs of wheat, 50 kgs of rice, along with other essential food items and toiletries. In addition, BKCS also presented a cheque of ₹10,000 to Prison Ministry India as a gesture of support for their noble mission.

Later, Rev. Fr. Francis took the team on a tour of the premises and explained the various initiatives undertaken by the Prison Ministry India. He also showed the Research Unit, where he explained the work being carried out to support prisoners who are currently incarcerated or are about to be released. Through research, counselling, and rehabilitation initiatives, the ministry helps them reform, become responsible citizens, stand on their own feet, and reintegrate into society with dignity.
